What do we hope for that we can be sure of?

“I hope for a sunny day.”

“I hope to see my loved ones soon.”

“I hope to see my business thrive.”

“I hope to have a good job.”

“I hope my car doesn’t break down.”

” I hope the Government does the right thing.”

“I hope he likes me.”

“I hope I keep my health”

“I hope I don’t disappoint.”

NONE of these are certain. Many even seem less certain than they did 2 years ago!

What can we hope in that is sure and certain?

More certain than the rising and setting of the sun?

Jesus Christ.

We need an anchor. something unmovable, unshakable. Something that cannot be overthrown by any force from this world – or any other.

Jesus Christ.

I hope for words that are true, unrevokable, trustworthy, full of goodness, mercy, grace and love. words I can depend on.

Jesus Christ.

I hope for a source of courage, strength, worthiness, joy and wisdom.

Jesus Christ.

I hope there’s someone who sees me, who hears my cry for help. Someone who will never withdraw their love, even when they see me at my worst.

Jesus Christ.

I hope for meaning, purpose, destiny, fulfillment.

Jesus Christ.

I hope for power to overcome, to heal, to set free.

Jesus Christ.

I hope that at the end of my days there will be a place of no more tears, no more conflicts. A place where there is restoration and life in all its fullness, as it was intended in the beginning. A place where I can see my Saviour, my rock, my anchor, face to face.

Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. ¹⁹ This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. ²⁰ Jesus has already gone in there for us…….

Nothing, absolutely nothing in this life can be depended upon, other than Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Word of Life.
